Coursework - Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician program at Apollo College provides the technical and practical education to allow you to work as an assistant to a licensed pharmacist in both retail and hospital settings. The program will provide you with extensive knowledge in pharmaceutical and medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting of medications and a working knowledge of drug trade and generic names as well as strengths, dosages, dosage forms and routes of administration.

Reading comprehension, pharmacy mathematics, use of the calculator, and good verbal and written communication skills are functionally taught throughout the course. Upon completion of all classroom instruction and practical education, you will perform the skills you learned during a 260-hour externship in a hospital, retail pharmacy, or pharmaceutical distributor.

Vatterott College: This program is designed to prepare the student for entry-level employment as a Pharmacy Assistant, performing administrative, clerical or pharmacy assistant duties or any similar positions within the health care field. The program consists of 60 weeks, 59-quarter credit hours of theory and associated lab and 13-quarter credit hours of Applied General Education instruction in the areas described below. Each 10-week term is equal to 12-quarter credit hours. The entire program has a total of 72-quarter credit hours.

The diploma program is designed to prepare the student for entry-level employment as a Pharmacy Office Assistant, performing administrative clerical duties or any similar positions within the health care field. The program consists of 60 weeks, 66 quarter credit hours of theory and associated lab and 6 quarter credit hours of applied general education instruction in the areas described below. Associate - Pharmacy Technology

The Pharmacy Technology degree program provides both technical and practical education which will enable you, upon licensing, to function as a competent entry-level assistant to a licensed pharmacist.
